Maggie's Summer Concert Series

  • Apr. 23rd, 2008 at 3:22 PM
puppy attack (grr), black & white scale (Chubb of Doom), pee wee (holy crap!), o rlmente, napoleon dynamite (jack-o-lantern), napoleon dance (celebrate), napoleon FFA (duh), the motherland (view), oklahoma keychain, bigboy, woolf (writing), days of our lives (drama), work (emergency), pedro (hot & hair troubled), i feel pretty, yummm... (hungry), Triumph type (writing), winter tree, heh. you said 'anus.', napoleon (time machine), route 66 (road trip), bare feet me, grandma (you gotta be kidding me), kip (kicking ass), black bikini (skinny), sad me, booger!, greyscale me, S&tC (Carrie drunk), chester (beady eyes)
So, it's about that time again. I'm getting itchy for a concert or five. Here are some upcoming concertsshows I really wouldn't mind seeing:

  • Jon Stewart: May 10@ Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center
  • (Edit: Just purchased tickets for Mr. T and I to see the 10:00 p.m. show--yay!)
  • Dying Fetus: May 21 @ the Masquerade

  • Erykah Badu: May 23 @ the Fox

  • Over the Rhine: May 31 @ the Variety

  • Ingrid Michaelson: June 10 @ the Variety

  • Vampire Weekend: June 11 @ the Variety

  • Cat Power: June 15 @ the Tabernacle

  • R.E.M (with Modest Mouse!): June 21 @ Lakewood Ampitheatre

Note: If I thought for a second I'd be able to stomach a multi-day, camping in the outdoors, drunk hippie mudwrestling festival, I'd go to Bonnaroo just to see ADELE....and Ben Folds, Cat Power, The Bluegrass Allstars, Iron and Wine, Rilo Kiley, Tegan & Sara, Aimee Mann, Ladytron, Jakob Dylan, Vampire Weekend, Janeane Garafolo, and Mike Birbiglia. But considering that's only about a handful of the acts lined up, I really don't think it would be worth it.

So, is there anyone else out there who might be interested in one or more of these shows, too?

where's the picture of you lounging around not working? i've come to expect a picture with each post. the insanely long toe icon doesn't cut it either. i want to see you looking out the window or chester lounging around not doing anything. i demand a picture with every post!

...and yay for jon stewart!

Are you going already? If so...just picture it. We we're inside the Variety at the same time, *gasp* talking to each other...*Kaboooom!* The Variety would implode with awesome, and everyone there would die.

:/

...Can you live with that on your conscience?

I'd go to REM with You
Love. Them. Of course, if I won't be able to commit until next week. I'll explain in detail then.

Re: I'd go to REM with You
Awesome. Just let me know. :) And, if that falls through, we need to make plans to hang out soon. I miss you guys!

I'm definitely interested in the REM/Modest Mouse/The National show. I've never been to a show where I loved EVERY band on the list.

I know, right? Would you want to go with lawn seating or the $$$$ seats? Of course, never having been there, I have no idea just how $$$$ those seats are...

probably the seating.. the lawn gets really crowded. And if it rains you're screwed.

Hmm...Mr. T is going to pass, I think. He doesn't have love for Modest Mouse or The National, and he's seen R.E.M. But I'm totally still in. I'm going to assume we want to get tickets all together?

I would totally make fun of you for saying that, but I realize that I have the luxury of working from home and being able to nap the day after a weeknight concert. So. Instead, I will nod my head in approval of your very responsible and grown-up decision.

Also, I hate looking around and feeling like I'm the oldest person at a concert. I think hers would be one of those. Oh well. Next time!

I've pretty much given up music festivals. Too many people, too many sweaty people rather, and the bands play like five songs before being ushered off the stage, then it takes you five hours to get to the next stage. No thanks. Also, porta-potties.

As a sidenote, I recently saw the Avett Brothers at Variety Playhouse, and DAMN I love that venue! Aside from the fact that all the seats are under air vents (which were on, non-stop), I love the fact that there ARE seats AND a pit area, plus the leveled sides (with railings) AND a balcony area for old folks like me. And I rekindled my love for Virgina Highlands and Savage Pizza. Yum! Suddenly I miss Georgia.

I hear you. With festivals it's like...yeah, there are 800 bands playing, awesome! But, oh...they all suck, except these five. So, it's not even worth the ticket price, or the trouble. And yes, porta-potties. No, please!

I <3 the Variety! The Tabernacle used to be my favorite, but there's something so personal about the Variety. And, you have your pick of standing, sitting behind those standing, or sitting in chairs up top. Having watched shows from each, I have to say that there's really not a bad seat in the place. Plus, El Myr is next door, and I am in looove with that place. So, when are you moving back? :)
