so glad i decided to work from home today

  • Feb. 23rd, 2006 at 12:18 PM
puppy attack (grr), black & white scale (Chubb of Doom), pee wee (holy crap!), o rlmente, napoleon dynamite (jack-o-lantern), napoleon dance (celebrate), napoleon FFA (duh), the motherland (view), oklahoma keychain, bigboy, woolf (writing), days of our lives (drama), work (emergency), pedro (hot & hair troubled), i feel pretty, yummm... (hungry), Triumph type (writing), winter tree, heh. you said 'anus.', napoleon (time machine), route 66 (road trip), bare feet me, grandma (you gotta be kidding me), kip (kicking ass), black bikini (skinny), sad me, booger!, greyscale me, S&tC (Carrie drunk), chester (beady eyes)
as per usual, i was listening to iPod and decided to stroll through the 'B'-section, settling on some Beth Orton, as i am accustomed to doing. curious to see if she had anything new coming out soon (and in the middle of a work-break), i head to the website to peruse...and lo! behold! a new Beth Orton album, released February 7, a mere sixteen days ago! immediately i go to Amazon.com and purchase this little bundle of joy.

and then i head back to the website to see if she's touring in the south anytime soon (because by the time i realized she was in town last time, tickets were already sold out), and lo! behold! she will be at my favorite venue, the Variety Playhouse Monday, March 13! HOLY JEEBUS!!

so, of course i bought tickets (yay for tax refunds!). two, in fact. now i just have to find a concert buddy who loves the B.O., too.

again...HOLY JEEBUS!

i'm gonna see Beth Orton. live. in person. for the first time ever. after being addicted to her music for going on ten years now. i'm so happy i could pee my pants!

p.s. i would love, love, love to have this (Pass In Time: The Definitive Collection), were it not for a) having just made a purchase or two that i really can't justify and b) my intense loathing for the 'put out a greatest hits compilation just to make more money' trend that seems to be overtaking the music industry these days. but...it's Beth. and it looks like there are a lot of remixes and b-sides that i don't have...so it may be worth it.

Trailer Park was the first CD of hers that i bought, and since 1996 (or 97?) it has been on my "top 5 of all time" list. so, i would recommend starting there. if you like what you hear, move on to others in this order:

(2) Central Reservation
(3) The Best Bit EP
(4) Daybreaker

for some reason, it took me a while to like Daybreaker as much as the others. now that i do, i'm not sure what the problem was. Other must haves (in order of need):

(5) The Other Side of Daybreak--remixes and such, not my favorite, but for a die-hard like me, a must-have.
(6) SuperPinkyMandy: only released in Japan, and impossible to find here, but can be found floating around in the ether somewhere. no matter what, the quality probably won't be great (it's probably a bootleg of a bootleg of a bootleg).

enjoy!

I've got decent quality mp3s of the SuperPinkyMandy and some other stuff she did with William Orbit.

She sang vocals on all my favorite Chemical Brothers songs and thats what got me interested in Trailor Park. Dale and I met her a few years ago after a show at the variety. She's really very charming.

Brad's been trying to convince us to go to that. You could probably talk us all into it, if you want... we could buy two more tickets and go as 4 or however you'd like.
